Perhaps, it's the rain and chilliness today but all I want to do is dive under the covers and nap. Unfortunately, I had lots of work today and even more this evening (though tonight's workload involves fun party planning for a dear friend's 3-0).

Sometimes I wish for a working fireplace, though I heard it's a lot of work to maintain. Is that true?? Wishing for rooms like these when it's quite bleak outside. Also, craving for a similar faux fur throw, placed nonchalantly over a chair...I don't know why, but it just looks so chic!

I took this picture on a walk to the Harbor Bridge during my first trip to Australia. It was a chilly and overcast day, but still had a blast frolicking around Sydney. Love, LOVE it out there and looking forward to another trip to the land down under! This time around, I'm hoping for a proper road trip:)

Cupcake Wars

Hi there, I'm still alive:) Again, life got in the way. Hope you're all well in this new year! I'm going through some transitions hence the lack of posting, but some exciting times ahead in 2012 (fingers crossed). I'm having quite the busy weekend, including a big 3-0 for one of my very good friends!

We started off the weekend with a trek eastward to Riverside and had the opportunity to get a taste of Casey's Cupcakes, winner of The Food Network's Cupcake Wars!! Baby sis raved about the shop when she visited friends a few weeks ago. Of course, I had to stop by since I was in the area. Unfortunately, I did not catch Casey's episode, but it was still exciting to get a bite from her adorable shop. Everything about it is ultra feminine and complete with pink cafe tables! I'm not uber girly girl, but all the pink still made me somewhat giddy anyway;)

We bought a few flavors, three to be exact. $10.50 for 3 cupcakes was a bit on the expensive side for me, but gotta live a 'lil, right? I'm not a fan of sugary sweet frosting so I was quite taken by the Carribean Coconut. Creamy goodness! We also sampled Excellent Espresso (seen below), which was good but carribean coconut took the cake (pun intended haha).

Located by the historic Mission Inn, Casey's Cupcakes is somewhat tucked away in one of the plazas. Just look out for shades of pink among the greystones;) If you get a chance, be sure to walk around the downtown area and even pop into Mission Inn. The holidays is usually the best time to see the inn in all its christmas lights glory, but the stunning architecture and history (10 presidents have stayed here) is still worth the visit.

It's hard to believe that January is flying by and awards season is upon us! Is it just me but was the red carpet just o-kay this year at the Golden Globes? Emma Stone was the standout look for me (though not my favorite Emma look), but man, can she ever NOT look good??

A good friend posted this quote on facebook the other day. I was feeling discouraged with a new project at work, on top of other personal problems that have been bringing me down. Initially, I was up for the challenge and ecstatic. Setbacks and unforeseen circumstances caused much frustration and tension. I was close to throwing in the towel after a stressful few weeks.

My friend's post came at such a perfect time (almost serendipitous? I've always wanted to use that word tee-hee). I'm grateful for moments like this. Moments that just slap you back to reality and somehow uplifts you to push on forward, whatever the circumstances.

Hi everyone! If you celebrated Thanksgiving, did you have a good one? I had a wonderful (way too short) time with my family & over ate, as usual haha! Black Friday shopping started at midnight this year and yes, it was INSANE. We were dead tired by 9 AM, but so worth it! Lol More on that later.

Switching back to work mode is always difficult following a holiday and even more challenging when you're ill. Really tried to fight it during work since I'm avoiding taking sick days. I was planning to share pictures of my weekend on this post, but I just don't have the energy to edit the pics.

It's nearly Thanksgiving?! How?!:) As I mentioned yesterday, I'm having quite the stressful week, but thankful for today's short work day! Quick rant: work was awful this morning, but I'm attempting to keep my head up and not allow the day's discouragements set the tone of the holiday weekend. It's just one of those days where everything seems to go wrong...

On that note, above are a few phone snapshots of tiny pick-me ups that's getting me through this week. Why am I still on my laptop?? Haha! I need to scurry on out of here and join the masses for some last minute groceries...Lines are going to be craazzyy.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Did you do anything fun? I started some Thanksgiving prep, but was interrupted by work:( Looks like I'll be scrambling late Wednesday afternoon since this short week is brimming with more work.

As you can tell from previous posts, the last two months have been stressful both personally and professionally. I'll spare you guys all the details, but thank goodness for this awesome blogosphere! It's always a welcome break from reality to divulge in anything inspirational and creative (i.e. Anything by Tim Walker blows me away & this polka dot room is no exception!).

I'm going through a polka dot phase at the moment lol Can anyone point me to a flowy polka dot blouse like the ones above? (Within a reasonable price *wink*)

I discovered a new favorite site through Hank+Hunt last week and just had to share! Austin, Texas based Caroline Colom Vasquez is the talented artist and designer behind Paloma's Nest. I'm loving the stylish simplicity of these handcrafted loveliness with a wide range of customizable gifts for weddings, birthdays or any occasion, really.

I'm sure many of you guys know at least one person who has everything they need/want, hence a headache to shop for lol I know quite a few and each birthday and holiday season has me scrambling for ideas! The above items caught my eye including these customizable cuff links and "where we met/where you were born" ornaments. I'm also a huge fan of the these wooden bracelets stamped with positive affirmations: "You are loved"/"I Can Change the World"/"Grace+Courage."

I'm still in disbelief that Thanksgiving is next week! Didn't we just begin November?! With the holiday decor and music surfacing in stores, I'm starting to feel that holiday giddiness & cheer. This includes a month long obsession with anything that glitters and sparkles.

Exhibit A: I nearly purchased these vibrant Dorothy-esque ruby slippers from the Tar-jay kids department. No joke, I stood for nearly five minutes staring at my feet while while doing that familiar tug of war in my mind - Do I really need these?? Ladies, you know what I mean, ya?;)

The lovely Shenae Grime was recently featured on Refinery29. Any 90210 fans out there? Funny thing is that I never got into the original show while growing up, but somehow the current spin-off is a guilty pleasure (along with a string of CWTV shows...I'm looking at you Vampire Diaries).

I love Shenae's eclectic decor and can't seem to take my eyes off the wall of dream catchers. Check out the accompanying interview, as well. Gotta love this girl and her down to earth nature!

Weekend Blurbs

'Lil sis and I had a sudden urge for Mexican fare this weekend. We decided to go all out and even had our first taste of Mexican hot chocolate. It was quite amazing and just the right amount of sweetness. We made not so authentic tostadas (haha!), but it was still delish. 'Lil sis is usually a reluctant cook, but she made most of the meal much to my surprise (no complaints here lol).

Since we were going "all out", I fit in a small/easy DIY inspired by Alexandra's Joys. Check out her adorable version with colored tissue paper here. This fiesta for two was just what we needed to wind down following a stressful week. Btw, anyone else thrown off by the time change??

Manic Monday

Hello! Sorry for yet another disappearing act! Lately, I've been a bit swamped hence the sporadic posts. I'm hoping to be a better blogger this week;) How were your weekends? I had quite the frantic start to the week today. I suppose it's just one of those Mondays:) I'm relieved that the day is over and I'm now relaxing and blogging from the patio. I'm attempting to soak in as much of the beautiful weather as I can before actual Fall weather arrives in So Cal.

To keep my mind off the day's events, above are a few fun snapshots with my phone from the past week...

1.) I missed out on the Missoni for Target madness (my local store was nearly cleaned out!) and only managed to snag some platters. On a recent visit to see friends, I was quite excited to find this sweater skirt at their local store! OK, confession...it's from the kid's department, but the XL fits just like a woman's XS (and cheaper *wink*)! Plus, no indecency to be weary of since the skirt is as long as the adult version;)

2). A refreshing scent for an instant pick-me-up.

3.) Guacamole=Refreshing comfort food on a warm day.

4.) Loved the new painted staircase at one of my favorite shopping haunts, Madewell.

5.) Seriously too many temptations at the H&M sale. Love the color & ruffles of this top! Just $7!!

6) Today, I received a box of apples from a friend with an orchard. Made my Monday a little brighter! What a sweetie pie!

Hope everyone had a great week! I was fortunate to have a shorter week due to Columbus Day (weekend pics coming soon), but battled with a bug that's making its rounds. Perhaps it's the weather change? We're having quite the October heat wave out here! No complaints, though, I'm not ready for the cold;) Ironically, I've been craving autumn hues in burgundy and maroon. I think I need the above H&M heels in my life...

Colorful Pick-me-ups: Fashion Week Edition

Looks like fall has decided to show itself here in So Cal. Temperatures have dropped drastically compared to yesterday's shorts and flip-flops weather. I actually had to bundle up! Anything below 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) is much too cold for this wimpy California girl haha

Weekend.Outfit | American Flavour shorts, Nordstrom BP belt & Express button down

It was quite warm this weekend, yet 'lil sis and I were craving French onion soup of all things! I adapted this recipe from How Sweet It Is (ah-mah-zing food blog, by the by). We used low sodium vegetable stock and subbed agave syrup for brown sugar. I know, I know, veggie French onion soup?! It's not too shabby;)

I try my best to eat healthy during the week, but when the weekend rolls around...gotta splurge a little! We broke a sweat while eating our soup and had to crank up the AC. Completely worth it! Haha

Fall Transitions

Hello there! Another apology for being a terrible blogger, but I'm still alive:) Been caught up in with life's craziness and the next thing I know it's fall?! Summer is still lingering here in Southern California (no complaints here *wink*), but I've been slowly accumulating a few inspirations for autumn transitions.

1. I am lusting after every single piece here on Chiara of The Blonde Salad. Aaah! She's wearing everything on my fall wish list: electric blue denim, tan leather jacket and the leopard purse!
2. Floppy hat...CHECK. Now searching for the perfect Navajo inspired wrap. Any leads on an affordable version?

3. My obsession with maxi skirts continues into fall. This version worn by Maria of Planet Blue is lovely! (P.S. So are the rest of her outfits here).

Weekend Blurbs: Beach Camping

Hi, everyone! How are ya? I apologize for another blog hiatus. Between work and moving to another rental, things have been a bit hectic 'round these parts. Packing is not my forte:) I had a lovely break from cleaning/packing with a beach camping trip with a few good friends. We drove up to the Ventura area for a day packed with hiking, laughs around the campfire and smores, of course! Good times all around!

I'm still recovering from the weekend, but it's off to more packing for now. Have a great week!

I'm not quite sure which rock I've been hiding under, but I was not aware of the BR Mad Men collection until I saw the BR mailer yesterday. Absolutely love it! These lovely, lady-like (and dapper) pieces were designed by the show's costume designer, Janie Bryant. I have heard raving reviews about the show and finally checked out season 1 on Netflix last night. I can see why it has quite the cult following!

I'm keeping an eye out for the leopard satchel above...it's the perfect lady-like shape and pattern. Are you guys fan of the show? Have a great rest of the week!

Wowza, how is it August?? I don't know about you guys, but it seems that summer just zipped on by! I had a semi productive weekend in terms of cleaning and closet purging, but there's still much to do! How were your weekends?

Lately, I have been inspired by anything boho and it seems that when summer rolls around, my inner boho emerges, as well. I've always admired Nicole Richie's take on boho chic but not quite brave enough to go full on boho, yet. Gotta love easy breezy clothing when temperatures are soaring outside. The first two images of Devon Aoki (Gah, LOVE her!) were shot by David Mushegain and also, my favorite Devon editorial. She has such a unique, doll-like face...somehow cute and beautiful at the same time.

Exhaustion and feeling burnt out from life's priorities have left me with no fitness motivation in the past two weeks. Exercising is a big part of my life and usually leaves me feeling balanced (especially when coupled with good nutrition) even when life's hurdles are in the way. I'm determined to return to this balanced state and for me, falling back into the fitness routine is a major stepping stone.

In an effort to regain my "center," I found this motivational video below via SELF Magazine. I'm always game for trying out new routines (unfortunately, I get bored easily if I don't change up my workout lol). This sampling of P90X moves has me pumped! Gotta love the peppy host, as well!

I hope you guys also find the images above inspirational whether in your fitness routine or just life in general:) What are your strategies to beat the workout slump? I would love to hear your suggestions!

These pictures were actually from a few weekends ago. We had a spontaneous afternoon tea party on the same weekend as the royal visit to LA! Unfortunately, I was unable to go downtown to wave/take pics of the royal couple. Bummer. I did stalk online pics of their entire North American tour. Yes, I'm still caught up in the royal frenzy;)

Preparing for our afternoon tea required creativity since we could only work with ingredients I had on hand. Let's just say two heads are better than one. I borrowed this beautiful tiered dessert serving dish from my mom, a gift from our uncle following his London trip. Overall, the weekend was filled with lots of laughs with the girls, great company & great food!

Hello there! I apologize for abandoning the blog for over a week! Things have been a bit hectic at my end. Ever had one of those weeks where everything seems to go wrong? It's a new week and I'm determined to stay positive despite all the latest hurdles/disappointments. On a brighter note, we've been blessed with a cooler summer but now temps are rising and it actually feels like summer these days!

I just realized that I haven't jumped into a pool all season! I came to this realization when I saw these incredible pools set in million dollar homes across the country. Wowza! I can't decide on a favorite, but the indoor pool within a townhouse in the heart of NYC is pretty awesome.

Happy 4th of July, Friends! Hope you're enjoying the weekend and grubbing on delicious bbq! I'm so grateful for the much needed 3 day weekend. In addition to the traditional bbq, this time of year is also a fun gathering with my family. I can't seem to recall a 4th of July apart! One of my fondest memories is a boating trip on a beautiful lake during my high school years. We were floating amid hundreds of boats as we watched fireworks above us, launched from a barge in the lake center. Good times indeed! Here's to making new 4th of July memories!

"Hairy" Situation

I was frantically searching for hair inspiration in order to fulfill my bridesmaid duty this weekend. I'm not great with hair to begin with. I can barely tame my unruly waves with a straightening iron. Opting to save money on pro hair and make-up, I went the DIY route (Thank goodness for little sis and her make-up skills!)

Lovely J (the bride) requested that we wore our hair down. The first thing that popped into my mind was soft, effortless waves that doesn't scream over styled;) So grateful for YouTube tutorials, 'coz this girl needs step by step instructions when it comes to hair! Haha!

Happy weekend! I have miserably failed at making these decadent French macarons after several trials. Sadly, they all came out flat as a pancake and resembled thin wafer like cookies, instead. Younger sis ate a few and even claimed to enjoy it (or perhaps she was just being kind haha).
I was so frustrated that it has been quite some time since my last attempt at macarons. After stumbling on this awesome tutorial on YouTube, I may just be inspired once again. Everything about this video is lovely, from the pictures to the fun music! She also has an inspirational recipe diary, The British Larder. Looks like I have a new food blog to stalk;)

In anticipation of an anniversary celebration for my parents, I scoured blogs/sites for some much needed inspiration. Following a stressful week and stricken (okay, I know I'm being dramatic haha) with a virus that's making its rounds, planning a party was the last thing I wanted to do this weekend. It's usually one of my loves, but I just had one of those weeks. The celebration is for my lovely parents after all, so I'm determined to put the week's negativity/craziness aside!

I was inspired by this cheery yet elegant dessert table via Project Wedding and immediately showed my sis. We both agreed that this is the perfect decor foundation to build upon, since our dad loves the color yellow and yellow roses are among Mom's favorite flowers. We're also planning to add a few fun elements to reflect our parents' personalities. Crossing my fingers that this will all come together!

Happy Hump Day! I'm in need of a mid-week pick me-up following a frantic (not so great) Tuesday. Ever had one of those days where it's difficult to stay positive when everyone around you is grumpy?? It's time to break out those sandals, Ladies! One of my favorite parts of summer fashion is a pair of new sandals. From wedges to flats, I love 'em all! The more vivid the color, the better! It doesn't take much to amuse me...simply buying a pair of flip flops for the warmer season makes me giddy!

As a Target addict, I've been stalking these braided sandals for quite sometime. If I could, I would buy every single color. They're currently on sale for $14! I recently purchased the turquoise pair. I love the flexible soles for comfort and hopefully, for longevity through the summer months. Looking forward to breaking them in this weekend!

I wonder if the orange pair is still available in my size...

Also stalking these Miss Trish of Capri for Target sandals ($24.99). They're much, much better looking in person. The perched jaguar adds such a fun flair and somehow leads me to daydream of jet setting to a tropical isle with these in tow;)

It's been awhile since my last product review. As promised in a previous Vickery & Clarke post, I give you the detoxifying mask. This natural product line is sold exclusively in CVS. I've used the mask about 3-4 times since purchasing the item. So far I'm quite happy with this product, especially since it was purchased for half the price!:) Even at its full retail value, Vickery and Clarke products are very affordable (under $15). The mask alone costs about $4.99 at full price.

Here are a few specs about the product:

Non-drying face mask
Contains Bentonite which "naturally detoxifies, cleanses, calms and removes impurities from the skin."
Directions: Apply a thin even layer twice a week on clean face and neck. Avoid eye area. Leave for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

My skin is quite sensitive and acne prone, so I was a bit hesitant to try the mask. I was pleasantly surprised with this product. It lived up to its detoxifying claim and also somewhat to the non-drying claim. It did not leave my skin as dry as other face masks, but I still felt just a tad bit of tautness around the forehead area. Nothing a little moisturizer can't remedy;) Once I layered the mask on my face, it gave my skin an immediate tingling sensation. It felt great since I was in need of a wake up call, so I highly recommend this for tired skin or if you simply need a pick-me up. Following the application of this product, my skin felt soft (despite the slight tautness) and appeared brighter. This line seems very promising and I would definitely throw the mask into my beauty rotation. Not too shabby for $5! I will definitely return to CVS to try other products from this line. Hopefully there will be another half off sale soon:)

Fun Jewelry

I was running errands today at Target and made a quick stop at the accessories section. Loved the collection! Anna Sheffield's jewelry for Target was a bit on the pricier side, but I just loved the dainty chains of her necklaces and the "modern heirloom" theme. I did find some fun rings for $7.99 and under (not part of Anna Sheffield's collection). I sneaked a pic with my cell hehe Sorry for the poor quality.

I was never drawn to oversized cocktail rings or costume jewelry before, but in the recent months, they have slowly grown on me. I think deep down inside I craved for one, but was afraid to take the step haha Thank goodness for retailers like F21 and Tar-zhay (as me and my friends like to call it ;) ) with affordable options for those of us who are iffy or need to play with them a bit. During my last trip at Forever 21, I didn't find one that I liked even though I dug through all the bowls overflowing with rings:P I browsed through the online store and found a few fun ones for $6.80 and under.

Back to my Tar-zhay trip, I ended up purchasing just one accessory. I've been drawn to peace symbols lately and I just loved these stackable rings for only $7.99 and the mix of gold and silver tones. Remember when it's a no-no to mix gold & silver?? Thank goodness almost anything goes now;) Besides, I think the mixture gives certain pieces a fresh look:)

I made a quick stop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls last week. There were some amazing deals, as usual, but I tried my best to control the impulse to splurge just because it's cheap haha I found a pair of Sigerson Morrison heels with a cute little bow for $69.99 and a foldover handbag (Foley + Corinna inspired) by Nine West for $36.99. The heels were so adorable, if only it was cheaper and in my size!! I walked out with only one item, a Harlow tee for $14.99! Omg, if you're familiar with this brand then you know how ridiculously comfy their tees feel. I've heard it described as "superfine tissue" soft (as in the good brand of Kleenex :P). This L.A. based label, now known as Monrow, is quite popular with the celebs. One tee could cost up to $106 at luxury retailers such as Bloomingdales and Nordstroms. Yikes, I'm not sure if I can bring myself to drop that much for ONE tee no matter how soft to the touch they feel. What about you guys? Do you have any favorite "tissue paper soft" tees that you swear by?

Gianni Bini Dress, Dillards

I also made a stop at Dillards. They had an awesome additional 50% off on reduced priced dresses! Granted that they're from the summer stock, there were still some that could translate well to the cooler weather:) I've been eyeing this graffitti inspired dress by Gianni Bini all summer. It was the last one on the rack and costs only $23.99 after discount, BUT I couldn't hold up the dress due to my modest upper body:( I would have loved to wear this with black tights and a military style coat such as the Rue Royale ($72) from Fred Flare (in black of course)...

I met some friends for dinner and took advantage of dineLA week! If you're in the area and you're a foodie, then you know what i mean;) Fine dining for a fraction of the price! I wasn't quite sure about the dress code at this particular restaurant within a fancy hotel. My friend told me to just go dressy casual so I did a bit of rummaging in my closet and here's what I came up with...

I know it doesn't translate well in these pics, but it's quite beautiful in person. I was a bit safe with my outfit so I wanted to add a splash of color with this clutch. The blazer has been around for quite sometime, so I just rolled up the sleeves to update it a bit. This outfit was quite comfy, despite the heels:P I had a great evening with good friends, great food, and lots of laughs.

Oh Chanel Classic flap bag, so close yet so far beyond my price range. I'd take this iconic purse over any other IT bag including the Balenciaga City handbag that I still love even years after the initial craze. I'm not gonna lie, I have day dreamed about this purse and the potential outfits...the possibilities are endless. If I ever dropped that much for a purse, I'd probably chain it to my body:P or perhaps just use it every single day to get my money's worth:)

Shop the Closet: Extending the life span of the maxi

The term, "shopping your closet," is one I've seen over and over again in fashion blogs and magazines. I was quite reluctant to "shop" in this manner. What...no new clothes?? With piling school debts, bills and our current economic state, I have no choice but to spend a bit more wisely even when I see the mother of all bargains from time to time :P As your fellow "recessionista" (another increasingly popular term), I've been brainstorming on how I can translate some of my summer staples into fall.

When maxi dresses became popular this spring/summer season, I couldn't wait to go out and buy one! I have a thing for long skirts, but I'm just under 5'3" so this trend is not the most flattering for my frame. I went out and bought one anyway:) I found a gorgeous maxi dress from Marshalls and was taken by the water colored floral, patterned skirt with a contrasting black bandeau top. I was inspired by Lucky Magazine's Andrea Linett's take on the maxi dress for the November issue and also, Jessica Biel's outfit at the Hollywood Bowl.

I'm not too crazy about the slit on Jessica Biel's dress and Andrea Linett's carpet bag, but I do love their way of styling the maxi dress. I don't think I'll be needing a full length wool trench on my part of the west coast, but I do love the idea of it:) I've also seen the maxi worn under a boyfriend jacket. While I love Jessica Biel's relaxed look here, maxi dress paired with a denim jacket and flats, I needed a slightly dressier style for today's outing. Wish I could pull off flats with my dress, but I needed an extra boost in the form of 3 inch heels :) So here's what I decided upon...my favorite maxi with a cropped tuxedo style jacket and pumps. The H&M jacket was purchased last year for a mere $10 on clearance! I just love the details of this piece, such as the bows adorning the pockets and the pleats on the back. I wish I had more streamlined boots like the ones above to complete the look, but my Kenneth Cole pumps will have to do for now. It was in the low 60s today, so it was a bit chilly for this California girl:) I'm a wimp when it's cold, hence the closed toed shoes and leggings hehe (I apologize for the poor picture quality)

During today's CVS trip, I was drawn by the bright yellow 50% off tags for Vickery & Clarke. Love the simple packaging with its vintage feel and best of all, it's super affordable even at full price. There were many choices from face products to lip balms to body scrubs and much more. The line contains over 94% natural ingredients and are paraben free, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate free, Phthlate free, and Petrolatums free. There's even a quick history lesson behind it. A blurb on the packaging states that the line was inspired by two women pioneers of pharmacy, Alice Vickery and Isabella Clarke.

I discovered Kiehl's maybe about 2 years ago or so. Initially, I was hesitant to try their products. I thought that it would be another line of overpriced products with mediocre results. During one of my trips to Nordstrom's, I made my way to the Kiehl's counter and was approached by their skin specialist. He seemed pretty knowledgeable and asked me several questions about my skin and daily beauty routine. He recommended the ultra facial toner and advised that I used it after each face wash. I thought it was a bit excessive (and expensive :P), but he said that following this routine would wipe away not only debris but also residual detergents from your face (which also contributed to the tightness that you feel after you wash & dry your face). Two years later, I'm hooked on this product and the ultra facial cream moisturizer. Great combo for my skin type :)

I'm happy to say that I've seen an improvement in my complexion (my mom & my sister noticed, too!) It doesn't seem as dull, which is most likely attributed to the toner. For $15 a bottle, it's a bit pricey, BUT a few drops goes a long way! The moisturizer is a bit more expensive and comes in a small 1.7 fl oz jar for $24.50, but same goes for this product, you won't be needing too much for full facial coverage. We were at Nordstrom's last month and discovered that the same moisturizer comes in a bigger jar (4.2 fl. oz.) for $45.50! Much better deal. If only we had known...

Bottom Line: Become a Kiehl's member & take advantage of their awesome offers:) Still hesitant to try their products? Ask for a sample at the counter or store and test them out! (for FREE!) From my experience, Kiehl's reps have all been very nice and helpful and not stingy with the samples :)

Sephora Tricks of the Trade

I recently discovered Sephora's Tricks of the Trade. Awesome stuff! As you can see on the left panel, I have ridiculously oily lids:( Not only does the liner smudge on my lower lash line, but it also leaves its mark at the crease. A friend told me about this product since she has a similar problem. I tried it out and bam! hardly any residue at the end of the night. I used a waterproof liquid liner that day so I'm not sure how this product would work with a pencil liner. I will definitely get back to you guys once I try it out. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this product. If only I had known sooner...:)

Almay's Pure Blends Deal @ Target

Target is having an awesome sale on Pure Blends products by Almay. Great time to stock up on eyeshadows & lipglosses! Shadows are packaged in pairs for $5.02 (approximately the price of 1 shadow!) I believe it's about the same deal for the lipglosses. I was too excited about the shadows, so I didn't really pay attention to the other products :) Can't wait to try the lavender and oatmeal shades. I will definitely write a review when I get the chance to pick these up. Busy weekend ahead, so hopefully there will still be some shadows left for me. Have a great weekend everyone!

Kiehl's Marvelous Mineral Mascara

Just saw the new Kiehl's Marvelous Mineral Mascara on the Kiehl's website. Gotta love Kiehl's products! Has anyone tried this out, yet? Sounds like a promising product, but my major problem is my ridiculously oily lids. Blast these lids. I've tried countless products and so far my regiment includes DiorShow Waterproof Mascara. I still get raccoon eyes at the end of the day, but I noticed that if I blot my lids, it somewhat helps. If you have tips/tricks or know products that work and if you are willing to share, I'm all ears :)

Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo Spray

Picked up a travel size version of Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo spray for $10.00 at Ulta. I thought I would give it a try first before purchasing the full size for $21. I've tried two brands previously, Ojon's rub out dry cleanser and Rene Furterer Naturia dry shampoo. I purchased the Naturia dry shampoo at Sephora. It was highly recommended by the sales associate (or maybe because it costs $3 more than the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo I was thinking of purchasing :P). The product worked well, but I wasn't too crazy about the scent. Ojon's was just mediocre, but again I wasn't too happy with the scent. It left my hair smelling like incense.

The Oscar Blandi dry shampoo was a bit of a disappointment, as well. I'm not sure if I had a bad batch, but it left grainy residue on my hair even after an hour or so. The powder didn't dissolve into my hair as well as the Naturia brand and it was quite obvious against my black hair. I attempted to comb it through to evenly distribute the powder. It was a bit of a hassle especially when you're in a rush.

Bottom Line: The scent of Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo was great. Smelled fresh and clean especially when you don't have time to wash your hair in the morning:) I probably will not purchase this product again, just because of the grainy powder residue it left on my hair. Out of all 3 brands that I've tried so far (and if scent was not a factor), I would recommend Rene Furterer Naturia dry shampoo. T3 has a fairly new dry shampoo line, 360 degrees Refresh Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Has anyone tried this brand recently?

Too Faced Make-Up Book: The Beach Bunny

Speaking of apricot shadows, I purchased Too Faced's The Beach Bunny mini pallet this past January. At the time, I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that they were 50% off. I was drawn to the vintage graphics and the color scheme in this pallet. Another great feature about the packaging is its compact nature. It's about the size of a playing card and thin enough to slide in your pocket! Unfortunately, when I came home, the shadow was a bit too orangy for me. I was not tanned at that time, so it was a bit much for my skin tone. On the other hand, the bronzer was a great color if applied sparingly:) I pulled out this pallet again, recently, and gave the shadow another shot. The apricot color was still a bit too orangy even though I'm more tanned now. This color is a shade darker compared to the Almay's Pure Blends eye shadow I reviewed below.

Sorry about the bad picture quality, but the colors are actually much more vibrant in person. This pallet comes with two lipglosses in bubble gum pink and coral. I'm not too crazy about the quality of these glosses. It was a bit too sticky and when applied, it did not glide on smoothly. Also, it had poor lasting power. This is my first time trying Too Faced lip glosses, so I'm not sure if these glosses are representative of all their lipglosses. Bottom Line: Love the bronzer. Had high hopes for the shadow but it was a bit much for my skin tone. Have you guys tried other Too Faced pallets from this line?

Almay PureBlends Shadow in Apricot

My first product review ever! This is quite exciting:) for me at least :) I just bought Almay's Pure Blends eye shadow in apricot at Target yesterday. They're having a 10% off sale all the Pure Blends products. It doesn't seem much, but hey at least it covers the sales tax. This line of make-up is eco-friendly and contains mostly natural ingredients. The shadow I purchased is paraben and talc free.

I was hesitant about this color at first, since my skin color has yellow undertones. I was trying to avoid the jaundice look. One swipe of the shadow was not enough for me. I had to swipe on 2-3 more layers. Love the color! I've been out and about lately, so my face is a bit more tanned (more towards the medium range). I love how the color looks against my current skin tone. The apricot color is somewhat shimmery, but not too overwhelming therefore it's translates well in the daytime. Plus, the pigment did not bring out my yellow undertones. Such a great spring/summer color! I love the simplicity of the cardboard packaging with magnetic closure, plus it's made of 58% recyclable material.

Bottom line: I would most likely buy more shadows from the Pure Blends line. I'm not too sure how this color would look in my original skin tone (medium fair), but it works for the time being! My next purchase may be the shadow in lavender and perhaps a lip gloss. Has anyone tried either the lavender shadow or gloss or other Pure Blends products? I'd love to hear your thoughts on these:)
